2017 Gala Awards Dinner

For the past few years, the BBI Annual Awards Dinner has been filled to capacity at The Vintners Hall, London so this year the BBI Council decided to change venue to One Whitehall Place in London for their Diamond Jubilee Dinner. Now able to welcome fifty more, the event sold out to its maximum of 200.

Host and guests were delighted with the change of venue, the format of the dinner allowed for round tables and the bar stayed open until well into the small hours allowing for important networking.

The Champagne reception incorporated the presentation of awards for the winners of Medals and Certificates following the BBI Drinks Competition held in July, photographs of all the winners can be viewed here.

After a wonderful dinner BBI National Chairman, David Griffiths, welcomed all to the Diamond Jubilee Dinner giving an informative overview of the reasoning behind the creation of the BBI, which began life in 1953 with the first dinner taking place in 1957.

Ed Binsted, BBI President, then introduced and presented to Will Watkins of Radnor Hills Mineral Water the BBI Achievement Award sponsored by Krones UK. Will Watkins has, over the past 25 years, built Radnor Hills into a £40million turnover business producing 260 million bottles and 100 million Tetra Paks per year from the factory in Knighton in the Radnor Hills.

In accepting his award, the second of the night as Radnor Hills had already won a Gold Medal earlier in the evening following success in the BBI Competition, Will Watkins paid tribute to the huge support he had received from the engineering and supply chain over the years, which had helped him develop his business to the level it had achieved to-date.

The dinner was rounded off by a brilliantly funny Geoff Miller O.B.E, the ex-England, Derbyshire and Essex cricketer who had the entire audience in fits of laughter, quite simply one of the best after dinner speakers for many a year.

Such was the success of this year’s dinner; the plan is to hold next year’s event again at One Whitehall Place on the 1st November 2018. If you wish to reserve tickets, then please get in touch with Jan Binsted at either jan@bbi.org.uk or Tel +44 (0) 1264 326478.
